
Mandarin - High Beginner 1

Course Description
This is a standard class that meets once per week for 8 consecutive weeks: May 14 – July 2. This course builds on the Beginner level and continues CEFR A1/HSK1 material. Students expand their skills to discuss family and the home (talking about family members and household items), describe locations of objects, and use common adjectives (colors, sizes) to describe things. They will also learn to talk about dates and holidays (like the Spring Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival), and handle everyday shopping interactions, including asking prices and making simple choices (big or small, cash or card). By the end of this course, students can confidently use Chinese to describe their immediate environment and handle basic daily-life situations. Level: HSK1 / CEFR: A1 Topics: family, simple directions, compliments, Chinese holidays, food, travel, and seasons Objectives: use of “to have,” particle words, month/date/week/year/seasons vocabulary, use of “how” and “what,” measure words, and numbers 11-100, colors, expressing and asking for opinions, and describing personalities Textbook: New Concept Chinese 1, Lessons 11-20
